Anatomy of a Jellyfish Pattern Design

Sea stings are a thing! It’s one of the reasons for wearing our “skins”. Rash guards and leggings are great protection from the sun rash and sea stings. We love our Caribbean waters and the beauty it beholds. However, Jellies, with their iridescent majesty, can deliver painful and even toxic stings. Prevention includes passing on scuba and water sports during times of heavy infestation and wearing full-body protective wear that fit snugly at the neck, wrists, and ankles. Sting No More, provides rapid relief for stings of all classes of jellyfish including box jellies.

That said, I thought it would be fun to flaunt these beautiful creatures in a new pattern design. Inspiration for the design was a science article by Bud Gillan, published in the “Bonaire Reporter” (see below).

Let’s start with a few JellyFish illustrations. Medusa, Moon and Bonaire Box.

Sprinkle in some artsy science DNA images…..

Add some Adobe Illustrator and Math to create the repeating pattern design and voila!
